Ansible Contributor Summit: Ghent

Ansible Contributor Summit is a full day working session especially for community users and contributors to interact with one another, as well as with Ansible development teams. We will discuss important issues affecting the Ansible community to help shape the future of Ansible, with a focus on improving collaboration with our contributors.

Mark your calendars and save the date!

Agenda (WIP)

We’re still finalizing the agenda and there are more details to come but here are the topics and talks we’re likely to cover:

  • 10.00 - 10.10 | Welcome and introduction
  • 10.10 - 10.30 | Luca Berton shares his story about building a community around Ansible Pilot to share code, examples, and troubleshooting that has helped over a million users worldwide.
  • 10.30 - 10.50 | @rfc2549 presents “Recording Ansible benchmarking ansible with Ansible”
  • 10.50 - 11.20 | @mkrizek from the Ansible Core team shares some updates and other good stuff.
  • 11.20 - 11.30 | Break
  • 11.30 - 11.45 | @anwesha outlines how to become an Ansible community contributor and highlights areas of opportunity.
  • 11.45 - 12.00 | @gundalow gives an overview of the work that the Ansible community engineering team has planned for the year ahead (spoiler alert: there is a lot of focus on collections and the developer experience).
  • 12.00 to 12.15 | @felixfontein tells us about the community.general collection and shares his experiences and points of view about contributing to collections.
  • 12.15 and on | Ansible Development Tools workshop! Let’s get hands on and look at how to use Ansible development tools to create automation content. The workshop will include a set of challenges that should take around 90 minutes to complete. We’ll also take some pauses for discussion and to have some fun.

Tell us what you want

The agenda is still a work in progress and we’re very much open to suggestions. After all, this is YOUR event.

So tell us what you’d like to hear, see, or do. Have you got something you’d like to bring to the community and demo or talk about? Please feel free to reply to this thread and give us your thoughts.

No particular wishes for the agenda, but I did enjoy getting to know the person behind the nickname

But perhaps get a waffle iron and make our own :waffle: :waffle: this time around

Hi

I might not make it in person this year but if there is room in the agenda, I am willing to present something remotely.

As a follow up to 2023’s “Recording Ansible building ansible with Ansible & testing it with Ansible”, I humbly propose:

Recording Ansible benchmarking ansible with Ansible

The presentation would explain how we might benchmark Ansible with ansible and then dig into performance metrics across several versions of Ansible and Python.

Users could expect to walk away with some tips on how to profile and improve their playbook performance.

@rfc2549 obviously would love to have you there in person but virtual/remote is the next best thing. we’ll be sure to have some waffles in your honor. that sounds like a fantastic presentation! I’ll include it in the agenda. I’m sure there is room for that. thanks and looking forward to it!

I don’t have any special wishes, but hands-on always has my preference.
But who am I, never been to the Wednesday

We are really planning on being there this year.
