Ansible Contributor Summit: Ghent

Ansible Contributor Summit is a full day working session especially for community users and contributors to interact with one another, as well as with Ansible development teams. We will discuss important issues affecting the Ansible community to help shape the future of Ansible, with a focus on improving collaboration with our contributors.

Mark your calendars and save the date!

Agenda

We’re still finalizing the agenda and there are more details to come but here are the topics and talks we’re likely to cover:

  • 10.00 - 10.10 | Welcome and introduction
  • 10.10 - 10.30 | Luca Berton shares his story about building a community around Ansible Pilot to share code, examples, and troubleshooting that has helped over a million users worldwide.
  • 10.30 - 10.50 | @anwesha outlines how to become an Ansible community contributor and highlights areas of opportunity.
  • 10.50 - 11.20 | @mkrizek from the Ansible Core team shares some updates and other good stuff.
  • 11.20 - 11.30 | Break
  • 11.30 - 11.45 | @gundalow gives an overview of the work that the Ansible community engineering team has planned for the year ahead (spoiler alert: there is a lot of focus on collections and the developer experience).
  • 11.45 - 12.00 | @felixfontein tells us about the community.general collection and shares his experiences and points of view about contributing to collections.
  • 12.00 to 12.15 | @rfc2549 presents “Recording Ansible benchmarking ansible with Ansible” (Might do this one later on given @rfc2549 will be presenting remotely from Canada, 6 hours behind.)
  • 12.15 and on | Ansible Development Tools workshop! Let’s get hands on and look at how to use Ansible development tools to create automation content. The workshop will include a set of challenges that should take around 90 minutes to complete. We’ll also take some pauses for discussion and to have some fun.

No particular wishes for the agenda, but I did enjoy getting to know the person behind the nickname

But perhaps get a waffle iron and make our own :waffle: :waffle: this time around

Hi

I might not make it in person this year but if there is room in the agenda, I am willing to present something remotely.

As a follow up to 2023’s “Recording Ansible building ansible with Ansible & testing it with Ansible”, I humbly propose:

Recording Ansible benchmarking ansible with Ansible

The presentation would explain how we might benchmark Ansible with ansible and then dig into performance metrics across several versions of Ansible and Python.

Users could expect to walk away with some tips on how to profile and improve their playbook performance.

@rfc2549 obviously would love to have you there in person but virtual/remote is the next best thing. we’ll be sure to have some waffles in your honor. that sounds like a fantastic presentation! I’ll include it in the agenda. I’m sure there is room for that. thanks and looking forward to it!

I don’t have any special wishes, but hands-on always has my preference.
But who am I, never been to the Wednesday

We are really planning on being there this year.

I will be at CfgMgmntCamp 2025 as well.
I look forward to sharing some ansible experiences with you.

And I really hope there will be someone there who can help me regain access to some of my ansible roles on galaxy-ng. Or help me archive/delete them so I can upload them again. Since the launch of galaxy-ng there are a few roles that I can’t update or delete anymore. And I think it is better to have a personal conversation with someone with these powers than to open another forum thread that will not solve my problems.

hey @L3D I look forward to meeting you and hearing about those Ansible experiences. I definitely think it will be possible to figure out how to sort the access issues with your roles in galaxy-ng too! sorry to hear you’ve had issues with that. drop by the booth one of the days or come along to Contributor Summit on Weds. see you soon!

Hi @L3D
Sorry you’ve had issues with galaxy-ng, we know there are some edge cases in permissions management. Though we can help now, If you’d be able to start a forum post in galaxy-ng we can help you.
Please include

  • GitHub account name (and old name if it’s changed)
  • Links to any Galaxy Roles which you can’t access anymore

Looking forward to meeting you at CfgMgmtCamp

I would like to have someone look at my feature request and help me getting started with my first contributions towards Ansible (collections) if they make sense.

Good stuff @Hipska! There will certainly be an opportunity to take a look at those requests and help you get started. We’ll be talking about just that during Contributor Summit so please join us. Also feel free to drop by the booth to chat through things and get some pointers. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
