Unmaintained role: ansible-community.ansible-vault

Hi there!

Just wanted to bring to your attention that the role ansible-vault (for managing Hashicorp Vault machines, not related to the ansible-vault CLI - yes I know, terrible naming) seems unmaintained. The latest commit is around a year ago, easy to review PRs (like these two I created here and here), along with other ones that really should make it into the role for completeness like this one, are not seeing any activity. Even though this role is one of the 4 repos pinned by the ansible-community profile on GitHub!

Is there anything we could do to help? Sorry if I didn’t look hard enough to find another solution, but couldn’t find any point of contact except this forum. I have some experience both with Ansible and Hashicorp Vault professionally (currently maintaining Hashicorp Vault clusters), and happy to help.

Thanks a lot!

Hi @zoug welcome to the Ansible Forum, and thanks for your first post.

GitHub repos under Community managed Ansible repositories · GitHub are maintained by the Ansible Community, ie not Red Hat maintained. Our communities time (interest and priorities) vary, so it’s possible that the previous maintainers are no longer involved, that said I’ve created Help with Ansible Vault Role · Issue #384 · ansible-community/ansible-vault · GitHub which will notify the current maintainers of the repo, so we can see who is still active.

I see there are various PRs, including some good bug fixes (such as Ansible Core 2.19 fixes).

If others are interested in helping, please reply to this post with what type of help. Looking at the open PRs and reviewing and testing would be a great help to allow the maintainers know what can be merged.

Hello @gundalow and thanks a lot for your welcome and actions! Things are already starting to move with the role. I’ll take it over to GitHub
