Hello Ansible and AWX community,
First, I would like to acknowledge the valuable work of the AWX maintainers, contributors, and the broader Ansible community.
AWX has become an important part of the automation ecosystem, providing a powerful foundation for infrastructure automation and orchestration.
Over time, working with infrastructure and enterprise environments has highlighted several recurring operational challenges:
security vulnerabilities, component lifecycle management, infrastructure modernization, and the need to maintain automation platforms that are reliable and sustainable.
These challenges motivated me to start Phoenix Automation Platform (PAP), an independent community project built on AWX.
Rather than attempting to replace AWX or compete with its development efforts, PAP explores how its existing capabilities can be adapted and integrated into an operational architecture focused on three areas:
- Security: Supporting vulnerability management through validation controls and component lifecycle practices.
- Architecture: Exploring adaptations to containerized services, Kubernetes deployments, and infrastructure integration.
- Operations: Simplifying installation, validation, and ongoing platform maintenance through documented and reproducible procedures.
The underlying philosophy is simple:
Modernizing a platform does not always mean replacing its core technology. Sometimes, it means improving how that technology is integrated, deployed, secured, and operated.
Current Project Status
Phoenix Automation Platform is currently at RC1, last updated on October 19, 2026.
The project includes a functional architecture and documented installation and validation procedures.
Development and technical reviews are ongoing, and there are still areas that require further improvement and validation.
Opening a Technical Discussion
I am sharing PAP here not as a replacement for AWX, but as an independent initiative inspired by real-world operational requirements and built upon the work of this community.
I would particularly welcome feedback amd also be interested in learning how others are addressing similar challenges in their environments.
PAP is an independent community project and is not officially affiliated with or endorsed by Red Hat, Ansible, or the AWX project.
