Much as the Community Working Group decided to go to an async discussion model here on the forum, it’s time for the Documentation Working Group (aka DaWGs) to make the same transition.
Why are we changing?
DaWGs has already been using the forum to seed discussions, using the dawgs-meeting tag. That has given us valuable input from those who cannot attend the matrix chat meeting that occurs every Tuesday.
We have also seen a significant drop-off in the number of attendees to that Tuesday meeting slot. This happens for various reasons, but is also indicative of that meeting slot not having the impact it had in the days before we had this forum. We have one regular attendee on most weeks, and some weeks when the meeting host is talking to themself
.
When is the change happening?
We will have one more live meeting next Tuesday, Oct 21, 2025 to discuss this change. After that, we will put the meeting on hiatus for a month before fully cancelling it. That gives us time to determine if there is a need for the live chat meeting. If there is no noticeable impact, we will fully cancel the live meeting and keep using the dawgs-meeting tag to mark items for discussion here.
What if I need to talk to the docs folks?
We will still all be active on the docs matrix channel to have live discussions, answer questions, and so on. The only change here is there won’t be a regular day/time that we will host a formal meeting.
If you have a documentation discussion topic, you can create it here on the Forum and add the dawgs-meeting tag here to catch our attention as well.
Is this a done deal?
No, this is a trial run. If you feel there are other alternatives we should try, please comment here so we can have a good discussion about it all.
