Hi everyone,
I had sent a message to the group maintainers a few weeks ago about issues with excessive filtering but did not get a reply.
Is there another way to reach the group maintainers/admins?
Thanks,
Vincent

Hi there,
Any information about this?
Thanks much,
Vincent
Hello Vincent,
May be IRC #ansible-awx , or a feedback / bug entry on GitHub ?It depends on issue itself.
Hi and thanks for your reply.
I can indeed chime in the ansible-awx IRC channel and ask there even I thought the maintainers would be replying on the list here.
As for the Github issues, I am not sure I will do that. The AWX team has been consistently pushing back issues like usability or help to setup things (i.e. not related to AWX defects themselves) out of Github for tickets wrongly opened there …

Hey Vincent,
I’ve looked back through our queue and I don’t see a message similar to what you’re describing but I could be missing it, my apologies if so.
I will say that the maintainers have been spending time each week on this mailing list in particular, trying to address what we can. We’re a small group of people with limited time, but we are trying our best.
Can you link me to your original message to this mailing list so I can explicitly add it to our queue?
Cheers,
Beccah
Hi Beccah and thanks for your reply.
I perfectly understand you have limited time for support, esp since this is a libre/open-source project. I appreciate when people like you (i.e. from Redhat) do take the time to reply and help the community.
As for my original message which I sent via the list administration, here it is (slanted):
"
Greeting AWX project list maintainers,
Sorry to disturb you but I am having a very hard time just sending messages to the list since those are supposedly seen as spam by Google and deleted. This is SO frustrating, there is no information apart from ‘message has been deleted’.
I wanted to help someone this morning (on https://groups.google.com/g/awx-project/c/uQ_MAEhZsOY) and all my messages got deleted. I initially had added a link to the AWX doc to help the OP/submitter, which presumably started to trigger the spam detection.
I wrote another message, this time removing the link and it is still being deleted. I waited a few hours before sending it again, same issue.
Would you have some suggestions as to how we can work around that and help one another on this list?
Thanks for your attention,
Vincent
Here is the text of my updated reply, still being deleted:
"Hi Antony,
I had tried to reply to your message with a link to the doc but this stupid Google engine thought it was spam (still can’t believe it!). It also looks like my message to the list is fully lost since I can’t even find it in my Sent Gmail folder…
Anyways, could you describe in more details what your setup is and why you have multiple credentials associated to your playbooks? Is this because you access multiple entities as part of the run, each of which has their own credentials?
The awx.awx collection might not enforce the type check for multiple credentials performed by the UI, you might give it a try.
Cheers,
Vincent

Thanks a lot for your help here, this is becoming increasingly frustrating to help others on the list.

Hi Vincent
I’ve searched the conversations and only finding hits from you for this issue. So I’m pretty sure it’s a spam filtering issue somewhere at your end or maybe the domain/SMTP you’re using (when not using a gmail email address) has been flagged by Google. We’re not doing anything to filter out messages.
If you click on the gear icon top right of the group, and look at Global Settings. Does it show as your email bouncing?
Can you reply directly within the web UI rather than sending email?
Phil.
Hi Phil and thanks for taking the time to help me,
My answers are inline below.

Understood. I was not even aware you had filtering capabilities given that this is a Google group. Do you have control over filtering as a group admin on your end?

It does not, cf the capture below:

Using the web UI is what I have been doing all along.
I initially tried to setup and subscribe using an external email address (that is a Google account but with an external email address) but this was getting nowhere: using my IMAP/SMTP client I could eventually receive the group emails but never manage to send them to the list, they were dropped without any error whatsoever, nor any message/reply from the Google SMTP server.
I have since then opened a dedicated Gmail account which I use only for the AWX/Ansible lists and things have been better: using the Google group web UI, I can send/receive email from the list.
That is until it started sporadically filtering my emails without a reason nor an indication. This is very frustrating as I have no control over it.
I was told by one of your colleagues this is for historical reasons that the Ansible project uses Google Groups. As libre/open source projects and given the number of issues seen w/ Google Groups (am I the only one to have those?) I think the lists for Ansible/AWX should be hosted on the Fedora/RH infrastructure and not with Google (but this is my own pov).
Vincent
Hi Vincent
We don’t have any filtering on this Group, so we’re not blocking your content and it’s not being flagged either.
Regards
Phil.
Hi Phil,
Thanks for your message and confirming nothing special is in place to filter messages on the list.
It thus looks like we are at the mercy of Google’s spam detection algorithm here.
