Social media promotion ideas

Hello folks,

Social media turns isolated code into a living ecosystem by amplifying visibility and inviting new contributors to join the conversation. It bridges the gap between developers and users, fostering the real-time connection and trust that drive open-source innovation.

How are we doing the promotion in Ansible ecosystem? What can we do better to spread the word about our work, possibilities and ask out for help?

Currently, we’re focusing on sharing updates, collection releases, and contributor highlights on LinkedIn and Mastodon. However, we know there’s always room to grow—and the best ideas usually come from you, the community!

Some ideas we’re currently kicking around:

  • “Contributor Spotlights”: Short, rapid-fire Q&As with our plugin and collection maintainers.
  • “Snippet Saturdays”: Sharing one-liner playbooks or automation “hacks” that solve common problems.
  • Video Shorts: 60-second “How-to” clips or behind-the-scenes looks at Ansible development.

Where should we promote

What social platforms should we post to, and what tags etc should we use so the content is seen?

How you can help (Action Items):

  • What have you seen work: What can we copy?
  • Share your thoughts: What kind of content do you actually enjoy seeing in your feed?
  • Suggest a format: Do you prefer deep-dive threads, quick tips, or visual memes?
  • Nominate a project: Is there a community collection or a cool use case we should be shouting about?
  • Volunteer: If you’re a social-media-savvy contributor who wants to help craft posts, let us know!

Please reply to this thread with your suggestions or reach out to us directly. Let’s make the Ansible community the loudest and proudest in the automation space!

Hello Anwesha [ @anwesha ], :waving_hand:

I think your idea is great. :+1:

My preferred social media platform is LinkedIn. With the publication of technical content very good discussions can be held and interesting contacts made there.
I suggest the following hashtags (I do not know if hashtags are still available on LinkedIn?):

  • ansible
  • itprocessautomation

As a technician I also prefer technical content. No, there are many interesting aspects to IT process automation with Ansible. Personally I prefer written text, either detailed or as a short tip, depending on the problem. I consider the collaboration between Ansible and VMware to be a very exciting project, particularly the interoperarbility with VCF Automation in the area of data center automation.

I look forward to increased visibility of Ansible topics on social media.

Thanks for your effort.
Best regards
Stefan
