Proposal: Replace Meetups Pro with Ansible Forum & Pretix

I’ve done some more testing and we can allow event RSVP without any account.

So Pretix accounts (which are SSO backed form Ansible Forum, with enforced 2FA validation) are only needed for event organisers. This protects attendees names and email addresses.

  • rsvp.ansible.com will be the new Pretix instance

Attendee workflow

The proposed workflow for an attended will be:

  1. All social media promotion will direct you to the event page (Meetup example), all of which will be found under the Forum’s event calendar.
  2. Rather than RSVP link pointing to meetup.com, there will be a link to rsvp.ansible.com, such as https://rsvp.ansible.com/ansible-meetups/london-nov-2026/
  3. On https://rsvp.ansible.com/ansible-meetups/london-nov-2026/ (pretix) you will get your ticket WITHOUT and sign-in needed. You will be asked for:
    • Name (required)
    • Email address (required)
    • Quantity (required): Read-only and set to 1.
    • Forum account name (optional): Ansible Forum account name
  4. Registration email will include .ics (so event will be added to your personal calendar), Apple/Google Wallet compatable ticket, PDF, etc

Why collect “Forum account name (optional)”, I’d like to award forum badges for attendees. This is partly for recognition. Though it also helps me demonstrate the positive effect events are having on the community, ie do people return, after attending an event, are attendees more active in the Forum, etc.

Event organiser workflow

These are the only people who have Pretix accounts (SSO to Ansible Forum) enforced. This protects attendees names and email addresses.

For event organisers we have extra requirements, those organisers will:

  • Be in private forum group meetup-organisers-${CITY}
  • Be able to create Forum posts for events under their Cities sub category
  • Have a “log into rsvp.ansible.com using Ansible Forum” option which will redirect to https://forum.ansible.com/session/sso_provider?sso=foo, which will re-direct them to Forum 2FA (ie one time pass).
