Contrib repo: revitalize?

I really want to start collecting useful non-core modules.

A while back we tried to resurrect the contrib repo, Right now it lives at bradobro/ansible-contrib.

The plan was that once it gets some submissions, we’d transfer ownership to ansible/ansible-contrib.

Problem is, it’s not getting submissions. Would like comments about why. Seems to me the main ones are:

  1. It’s not well known since it doesn’t show up in the main ansible@github.com’s repo list.
  2. The current bar for submission might be too high: you have to create github repo in a certain format and be willing to support the module (see the current ansible-contrib’s readme.md).
What would help this situation? Ideas?

Nobody knows it exists and only a fraction of users are on this list.

I should have asked first: do you still want a community ansible-contrib?

I think it’s a good idea. I have some to offer that won’t make core.

I’ll start this.

Add links to projects you would like to include to this ticket:

https://github.com/ansible/ansible/issues/642

I will let several other people help maintain this once I get it set up.
