I’m developing an Ansible network collection for LANCOM Systems devices, like switches, routers, access-points.
A basic collection with a first command-module works fine.

Now I want to go further and develop more modules by using the “_cli-rm-builder_”.
As described here:

- [Developing network resource modules — Ansible Community Documentation](https://docs.ansible.com/ansible/latest/network/dev_guide/developing_resource_modules_network.html)
- [https://github.com/ansible-network/cli\_rm\_builder](https://github.com/ansible-network/cli_rm_builder)
- [https://github.com/ansible-network/resource\_module\_builder](https://github.com/ansible-network/resource_module_builder)

At first I tried the existing “_cisco.ios_” resource-module-model.
But I always get the error message (even on other examples):

> ERROR! this task ‘include’ has extra params, which is only allowed in the following modules: shell, meta, add\_host, group\_by, win\_shell, win\_command, set\_fact, command, script, import\_tasks, include\_vars, raw, include\_tasks, import\_role, include\_role
>
> The error appears to be in ‘$HOME/.ansible/collections/ansible\_collections/ansible\_network/cli\_rm\_builder/roles/scaffold\_resource\_module/tasks/main.yml’: line 45, column 3, but may
> be elsewhere in the file depending on the exact syntax problem.
>
> The offending line appears to be:

> ^ here

I’m using:

> ansible [core 2.18.4]
> python version = 3.12.3 (main, Feb 4 2025, 14:48:35) [GCC 13.3.0]
> jinja version = 3.1.6
> libyaml = True

My playbook:

```auto
---
- hosts: localhost
  gather_facts: yes
  roles:
    - ansible_network.cli_rm_builder.run
```

Can you give me some hints, what could be wrong?

Thank you very much,
Heiko Tropartz

OK - it worked now, after two changes:

- _cli\_rm\_builder/roles/scaffold\_resource\_module/tasks/main.yml_
Replace “_include_” with “_include\_tasks_”.
[https://github.com/ansible-network/resource\_module\_builder/pull/72](https://github.com/ansible-network/resource_module_builder/pull/72)
- upgrading “_black.py_” and “_Click_” from “_python3.12/site-packages_” because of:
_"ImportError: cannot import name ‘\_unicodefun’ from ‘click’_"

It seems like that “cli\_rm\_builder” is not maintained for years, whereas “resource\_module\_builder” got one update.

So my question: is “cli\_rm\_builder” still the preferred way to develop Ansible Network components or is “resource\_module\_builder” a valid option to go with?
