# Automatically blocking spam

Some of the spam bot posts here looks like abuse I have seen on other Discourse forums I’m an admin for, the thing I have found that works for them is in admin to go to _Customise_ → _Watched Words_ and add strings, for example for one forum we have:

Hi Chris  
There does seem to have been an increase in spam recently, and I appreciate you taking the time to report posts as spam (I’ve just cleared out the backlog).

Looks like @oranod has added most of these, so let’s see how things look over the next few weeks.

On [one forum](https://community.coops.tech/) it got so bad that we had to resort to requiring the first posts from users to be approved by an admin, hopefully that won’t be needed here…
